THE VALLEY OF THE SANGRO

The valley was named after the river that has its source and flows in the heart of the Maiella National Parc.
It is an area of great interest from both an environmental and historical point of view thanks to the archaeological finds of Juvanum and Pallano.
The distance between the 2000 meters of the Maiella peaks and the sea is only 50 km. The currents of air and the ranges of temperature are beneficial to the quality of the grapes.
The most interesting mountain villages are Roccaraso, Rivisondoli and Pescocostanzo which are winter holiday resorts where one can still find the handcrafting activities, the traditions and the customs typical of our mountains.
Further down is the Maiella National Park populated by chamois and wildlife, and also Villa S. Maria a town famous for its great chefs and Fara S. Martino where the well-known pasta De Cecco is produced.
Going towards the sea you will find the lake of Bomba and the town of Lanciano with its Church of the "Miracolo Eucaristico" visited by a million people every year. Also interesting are the "Trabocchi", typical wooden constructions built in water and used by fishermen which can be seen from the shoreline of Chieti.
